Course Information
Description	An introduction to the fundamental terminology, concepts, theory, and application of two-dimensional design in creating a visual interpretation of cultural expression.

Learning Outcomes	Apply art terminology as it specifically relates to works of art. (PSLO Alpha and 2; measured by vocabulary quizzes) Demonstrate knowledge of art elements and principles of design.(PSLO 1 and 2; measured in presentations and embedded test questions) Differentiate between the processes and materials used in the production of various works of art.(PSLO 1 and 2; measured in class presentations and discussions) Critically interpret and evaluate works of art.(PSLO 1,2,5; measured by essay on critical thinking) Demonstrate an understanding of the impact of arts on culture.(PSLO 1,2, 4,5; measured by presentations and discussions) Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, students will: Identify and apply the elements of art and principles of two-dimensional design. Employ discipline specific vocabulary in the evaluation of two-dimensional design problems. Demonstrate creative skill in aesthetic problem solving within assigned parameters. Demonstrate an appropriate level of professional practice, including safety, craft and presentation.

Critical Thinking Skills: Students will engage in creative and/or innovative thinking, and/or inquiry, analysis, evaluation, synthesis of information, organizing concepts and constructing solutions. Determination of Final Grade	Expectations To do well in this course, plan on a minimum of at least 5-6 hours of work per week that will be dedicated to reading, writing, and chapter assignments for each chapter in preparation for the major tests. Unless otherwise directed, I will assign a average of 1 chapter per week to study. There is a lot of course material to cover in this class so please don’t fall behind. It will be hard to make up course material if you do so. Determination of Final Grade Tests 30% - There will be two major tests this semester totaling 30% of the final grade. Each test will cover 6 chapters from your text book. All content from each test will be taken from your textbook and any videos or lectures connected to each chapter. Each test will be a 50 question multiple choice test. Midterm Test- Chapters 1-6 Final Test- Chapters 7-13 30% Mindtap Chapter Quizzes Each chapter that will be assigned to every student will have online quiz questions that will be required to be completed after every chapter. These will accompany the reading assignments for each chapter. 40% Chapter Assignments- Each chapter will have an assignments that is specially designed to implement the design theory and techniques discussed in each chapter.

All course related assignments, objectives, quizzes, tests, and lectures will be available via your Lamar PA online portal and through Blackboard. It is very important that you keep track of updated online assignments and course objectives via your personal computer and Lamar PA email. In order to be successful in this class you need to be diligent in the pursuit of your education and maintain your commitment to the course. Class News and Updates I will be contacting you via email (through the campus email with reminders, changes or any other pertinent information. Please check your email at once per day to make sure there are any important updates. It is your responsibility to manage your mailbox so that lines of communication are open and available. Attendance Policy	Attendance You are required to check Blackboard for weekly and daily assignments every week. I will update new assignments every Monday so check your Blackboard accounts every Monday. If an online lecture is scheduled you are required to attend during set date. This is an online remote class so you will be responsible for your classwork and homework on your own time. You are required to have assignments turned in on time according to due dates.
Academic Honesty	Academic honesty is expected from all students, and dishonesty in any form will not be tolerated. Please consult the LSC-PA policies (Section IX, subsection A, in the Faculty Handbook) for consequences of academic dishonesty.
Facility Policies	No food or tobacco products are allowed in the classroom. Only students enrolled in the course are allowed in the classroom, except by special instructor permission. Use of electronic devices is prohibited.
